Brown Ribbon Exchange
Brown Ribbon Exchange (BRX) is a national network for women entrepreneurs, particularly Black and Brown women, focused on growing businesses through collaborative bartering of essential services, skills, and knowledge instead of cash.
UX Design & Web Development

01. Project Overview
The goal of this project was to transform Brown Ribbon Exchange into a polished, user-friendly marketplace—similar in concept to Fiverr—while maintaining its community-driven mission. The existing experience lacked visual cohesion and clarity across key user flows, making it difficult for users to confidently browse services, create gigs, or manage their accounts.
I redesigned and rebuilt the platform end-to-end, focusing on usability, clarity, and scalability within the constraints of a no-code environment.
My role: UX Designer & Web Developer
Platform: Bubble.io
Scope: Full website revamp, user flows, dashboards, and marketplace functionality

02. The Problem
While the platform offered meaningful functionality, the experience felt fragmented:
Inconsistent layouts and visual hierarchy made navigation unclear
Core actions (sign up, creating gigs, managing profiles) required unnecessary effort
The marketplace experience lacked the structure users expect from service-based platforms
The UI did not reflect the credibility or professionalism of the brand
The challenge was to improve usability and trust while working within Bubble.io’s design and logic constraints.
03. Design Process & Approach
Discovery & Research
I analyzed comparable platforms like Fiverr and other marketplace tools to understand user expectations around service discovery, onboarding, and account management. The focus was on identifying friction points that prevented users from moving smoothly between browsing, creating, and managing services.
Design Principles
The redesign centered on:
Clear visual hierarchy to guide user actions
Familiar marketplace patterns to reduce learning curves
Consistent layouts across dashboards, gigs, and profiles
A polished look and feel that builds trust and credibility
Design & Development Execution
Key improvements included:
A redesigned landing experience to clearly communicate the platform’s value
Streamlined sign-up and onboarding flows for different user types
A structured gig creation and management experience
Cleaner dashboards for tracking activity, orders, and profiles
Improved navigation across buyer and seller modes
All designs were implemented directly in Bubble.io, balancing UX intent with platform constraints and reusable components.
04. Testing & Iteration
Throughout development, I continuously tested flows to ensure usability remained intuitive across different user roles. Iterations focused on:
Reducing friction in multi-step actions like onboarding and gig creation
Improving form clarity and feedback states
Refining spacing, typography, and layout consistency
Feedback from stakeholders and early users was positive, noting improved clarity, ease of use, and a more professional overall experience.

05. Outcome
The redesigned platform delivered:
A significantly improved look and feel
Clearer, more intuitive user flows
Increased confidence when browsing and creating services
A scalable foundation built entirely in Bubble.io
This project highlights my ability to bridge UX design and no-code development—translating design intent into a functional, production-ready marketplace.
